Providing Quality Residential Care to Children and Young People

Accommodation

Accommodation is provided within large detached properties consisting of spacious bedrooms, reception/dining rooms and meeting room. The buildings are maintained and decorated to a high standard, with consideration to the tastes of children/young people. Our homes are large enough to give each child/young person space for themselves.

We strive to provide a homely atmosphere and family style environment. We try to minimalise the impact of 'institutionalism' with thoughtful furnishings and a sensitive approach to meeting the standards required by the Fire Department and Environmental Health.

All children/young people staying with Child First will have the space and privacy of their own rooms. They will be encouraged to personalise their rooms and keep their personal space clean and tidy to a reasonable level.

If appropriate,children/young people will have full access to the kitchen and its facilities according to age and care plan. They will have the opportunity to cook meals with a member of staff if the child's/young person's care plan permits.

All children/young people are expected to eat together at mealtimes as it is a time when issues can be discussed and social skills improved. Family and friends of the children/young people are welcome to visit and stay for the occasional meal (if agreed by the social worker).

There is a spacious lounge that the children can utilise for relaxing and socialising. We provide all the usual facilities such as T.V,D.V.D and computer games. We do however encourage alternative activities and avoid 'couch potato' syndrome! For example, horse riding, golf and swimming.
