
Research has highlighted the significance of resilience in children. Frequently children/young people who enter the residential care system have experienced some type of trauma. Children/young people who survive these experiences have developed their own resilience. Child first aims to support and enhance the child's/young person's resilience throughout their care.
We will strive to find activities in their daily program that will not only help their development in terms of education and social skills but also by promoting and supporting trusting, positive relationships that the child may build or finding activities that provide a sense of achievement and attainment. For example we can work in partnership with the C.N.D.L to train children/young people to become dog companions an activity that can bring a lot of pleasure and enjoyment and has been seen to enhance resilience in traumatised children/young people. If a child/young person has a specific talent or skill we can support that child/young person to develop their skills to their full potential.
